Common questions

How do I reset my quiz answers?

Open the Profile tab → tap "Reset everything" at the bottom → confirm. This wipes every piece of research data on your device. Uninstalling the app does the same thing. (Resetting device data does not delete your community account — that has its own button, see below.)

How do I delete my community account?

Open the Profile tab → scroll to "Community account" → tap "Delete community account" → confirm. This deletes your handle, every message you've posted in any country group chat, every DM thread you were part of (along with the messages in it), your presence state, and any reports you filed. Deletion is immediate in the app; backup rotation on our database may retain deleted rows for up to 30 days before they're fully purged.

How do I change my handle?

Open the Community tab → tap the handle badge at the top → "Reroll handle." You get a new random 4-character handle. Old messages keep the handle they were posted under, so a reroll doesn't retroactively rewrite your chat history.

Someone is being abusive. What do I do?

Long-press their message in any group chat or DM and tap "Report this message." The moderation team reviews reports against the community guidelines and can remove content or disable accounts that violate them. Because accounts are anonymous, your report doesn't attach your real identity to anything — we don't have one.

Why does my list look identical to my friend's?

It shouldn't — unless your answers overlap heavily. The ranking is personalized against every quiz answer (budget, goal, preferences, dealbreakers). If two users get the same top country, it's because their inputs align, not because of a fallback list.

The data for [country] looks wrong

Email us the country name and which field you think is off. Include a source URL if you have one. Country data is updated from public sources (cited on each country page) and re-verified annually — but nuances like local dating norms or city-level prices can drift faster than our update cycle.

Does it work offline?

The research half — quiz, ranking, compare screen, shortlist, trips, and every country-detail page — works fully offline. Country hero photos (from Unsplash) may not appear on first launch without Wi-Fi or cellular data. The Community tab needs a connection because the chat, presence, and DM layer runs on our server.

Can I sync my quiz answers across devices?

No — your quiz answers, shortlist, and trips live only on the device you installed on, and there is no cloud component for them. The community account is on our server, but it's keyed to the device you signed in on and doesn't carry research data. We may add optional iCloud sync for the research side in a future version — if we do, it will be opt-in and disclosed in the privacy policy before going live.

How is this different from other "best countries" lists?

It's ranked against your answers, not an editorial top-10. Every score on every country page shows the breakdown of what fed into it, so you can see whether a ranking rests on data you care about (visa, budget, safety) versus something you don't.

Is this app really free? Will there be ads later?

It's fully free — no paywalls, no trial timers, no unlock screens, no ads in the chat. If we ever add paid features in a future version, they'll be opt-in and won't remove any functionality you already have. No advertising is planned.
